A "Help line" for assistance to Ex-Servicemen of Madras Sappers has been established at MEG and Centre, Bangalore. The Help Line will endeavour to provide assistance to ex service men of MEG and widows for their rehabilitation, job opportunities, provide common information and help in sorting out problems with State Govt. or at Bangalore. The help will be extended on telephone /by e-mail /personal visit/by post and in exceptional circumstances through visit by suitable serving person. Helpline can be approached as under:

Thangavelu Boys Hostel

  • Boys' Hostel is run at MEG Centre, where children of ex-service men /widows are admitted. The children study in various local schools and it is endeavoured to facilitate them to pursue academic careers of their choice .Limited seats are available and children are admitted based on priority given below: -
  1. Killed in action.
  2. Died in Service
  3. Disabled in War/military operation during 1962 and thereafter. Boarded out from service in War/military operation during 1962 and thereafter. Pensioned out and later died. Released from service.

Basntar Boys Hostel

    (a) Students of Army Institute of Hostel Management are automatically eligible for admission to the Hostel.

    (b) Apart from the students of AIHM, 10 Nos wards of Madras Sappers are also eligible for admission in the Hostel. Daily timing of studies being pursued by the wards of Madras Sappers seeking admission in the Hostel should not clash with the Hostel check in and check out timing, i.e. 2200h & 0600h respectively.  

    (c) Parents of the student seeking admission to the Hostel should not be on the posted strength of any unit in Bangalore. In case they are posted to Bangalore during the session, the parents will make arrangement to withdraw their son from the Hostel on allotment of married accommodation. In case of a student whose father expires while in service, he becomes ineligible for admission to the Hostel if his mother shifts to Bangalore. Exceptional cases, if any, will be considered by the Management Committee at their discretion.

    (d) In case of availability of spare seats, after catering for (a) and (b) above, admission of student will be based on first come first serve basis. This will be only for a period of one year (Academic Session) and not linked to the course/study being pursued by the student, preference will be given in the following order:
  1. Sons of Serving Army pers.
  2. Sons of Army pers who in War LIC and CI Ops.
  3. Sons of Ex-Servicemen who are gallantry awardees.
  4. Sons of retd Army Pers with medical disability of more than 40%.
  5. Sons of retd Army Pers paid pension through defense paying auth.

Army Central Welfare Corpuses: Guide Lines

  1. A number of Corpuses have been opened by industrial houses to provide financial assistancee to War Widows, disabled boarded out soldiers and their dependents.Financial assistance is provided depending on means and merit of each case.It is governed by rules and regulation of each Corpus. The scheme of Scholarships is now Extended to widows of physical causalities also (non-battle causalities).

    (e) Details of All benefits received till date from all sources
    (f) Photograph of Beneficiary.
  2. Application forms can be obtained from ZilaSainik Board/record offices/Area/Sub Area/Station HQ's or directly from R&W Section,AG's Brach,Kashmir House, Raja Marge, New Delhi-110011.

Assured Decent Last Rites

  1. This scheme is an endeavour to ensure that the veterans get an honourable funeral and a befitting farewell from the Army during their last journey.

  2. Eligibility.   All willing veterans including Officers, JCO’ and OR and their widows holding valid Canteen cards will be eligible for ADLR Scheme

  3. A grant of upto Rs 2500/- will be provided on the spot to the Next of Kin(NOK) for assisting in organizing decent and honourable last rites of the veteran. In the absence of NOK or on the request of the family, the responsibility of organizing the last rites will be taken on by the field staff.
