Madras Sappers have undergone the following changes in their nomenclatures during its 227 years of history:-

1.     1780 - Corps of Madras Pioneers.
2.     1831 – The Corps of Madras Sappers and Miners.
3.     1876 – Queen’s Own Madras Sappers and Miners.
4.     1903 – 2nd Queen's Own Sappers and Miners.
5.     1911 – 2nd Queen Victoria's Own Sappers and Miners.
6.     1923 - QVO Madras Sappers and Miners.
7.     1941 - QVO Madras Sappers and Miners Group.
8.     1946 - QVO Madras Regimental Centre, RIE.
9.     1946 - QVO Madras Group , RIE.
10.    1948 - QVO Madras Engineer Group, RIE.
11.    1950 - Madras Engineer Group, Corps  of Engineers.
